HR chief shares top tips during networking event speech

The chief HR administrator for Star Refrigeration delivered a speech at a recent event that was organised by Investors in Young People (IIYP), where she spoke about how the firm has managed to recruit new talent.

Gillian Dunbar gave this speech during the Good Practice Networking Event that was put together by IIYP in early March. During her speech, she outlined the various HR initiatives that the firm has introduced so that it can recruit more young people. One successful example of these is its Star Academy that provides work experience for undergraduates.

This scheme has led to the permanent recruitment of many young people to a range of positions at Star Refrigeration. They include engineering, sustainability, marketing and sales, design and HR jobs.

Dunbar also talked about how the HR department at the company came up with fresh strategies for recruitment and retention based on feedback provided by their younger employees. This has led to a culture change within the organisation, including increased engagement with apprentices and more mentorship.

That kind of shift is often necessary for companies if they want to attract the brightest young talent, but it is not always easy. Hiring external culture change consulting services can help to smooth the process of implementation.

Star Refrigeration has received numerous accreditations from IIYP, such as the awarding of Platinum Status five years ago. The company makes extensive use of frameworks that were developed by IIYP. These demonstrate its commitment to ensuring its working culture is a positive and inclusive one.
