Employment Rights Bill roadmap launched by Government

A roadmap that deals with the new Employment Rights Bill has been launched by the Government, and it lays out how and when the changes proposed by the bill would be implemented.

One thing that the document confirms is that many of the changes would come into law very quickly. That could mean as early as April of 2026 for parts of the bill like increased paternity and parental leave rights, as well as statutory sick pay for low paid workers. While this may be a bit alarming for some companies, the benefit of the roadmap is that it provides them with a timeframe and allows them to plan.

According to Personnel Today, Angela Raynor, the Deputy Prime Minister, spoke publicly after the launch. She stated that the Government was anxious to deliver for the working population as quickly as possible.

She then went on to add that:

“These landmark reforms will kick in within months, demonstrating our commitment to making work pay for millions of workers across the country and delivering real change.”

The implementation of the various changes will be a staggered one, starting in April next year and running until 2027. Companies will need to work with their HR teams to prepare for them. That will be a major task, but they can always bring in project management HR services from outside to help with it.

In addition to the paternity leave and sick pay changes, the first phase of implementation will include the creation of the Fair Worker Agency. This is intended to enforce them.
