Three ways to assess employee engagement
One of the many functions of an HR department is to make sure that employee engagement levels remain high.
That is because workers who are enthusiastic and interested will be more focused and productive. If you’re looking for methods you can use to assess employee engagement levels, here are some to try.
Look at the rates of employee retention
If you are in charge of employee HR services, you will have access to data concerning retention rates. This can be very useful when evaluating engagement levels, because content and committed employees tend to stay with a company. If the data shows a retention rate below 90%, this could be indicative of a problem.
Look at the rates of employee absence
A second method for evaluating engagement is to look at rates of absenteeism. While the figures alone will not be proof of anything, high levels of absenteeism could point to disillusionment or mental health issues. Those are both signs that employees are not happy. If absenteeism levels are above average, you will need to investigate further.
Look at the levels of employee performance
The last strategy is to measure the performance levels of each individual employee. That means looking at the targets they have been set by their managers and whether they are hitting them on a regular basis. The best option for evaluating engagement levels is to use all three metrics – but that is a lot of work.
